Adolescent Treatment

Between the ages of 11 and 15 is the most common time for orthodontic treatment, and for good reasons.

By age 12, most if not all of the permanent teeth have erupted and are in place, and crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites can easily be corrected.  These problems will hardly ever correct themselves, so this is when most parents decide to seek orthodontic treatment.

Adolescence is also a good time for orthodontic treatment because your child is becoming more aware of their appearance and will cooperate well with treatment.

All patients are Invisalign candidates in Dr. McCoy’s expert hands.  Dr. McCoy has never had an adolescent not comply with the wearing of their Invisalign aligners, so don’t worry about that!  It’s easier to clean your teeth with Invisalign, too.

In Dr. McCoy’s office, Invisalign and braces are the same fee here.  So, if you have been told that your child is not an Invisalign candidate or if you are unsure about Invisalign for your adolescent because you were told Invisalign is more expensive, come in and discuss it with Dr. McCoy and his staff.

You can read more about wonderful benefits of Invisalign Teen treatment here.

Dr. McCoy still does braces, even though Invisalign is awesome.  During adolescence, many negative associations of braces are not present.  Many children in this age range undergo orthodontic treatment, and children are very often able to be convinced to wear braces because they see their friends wearing them, too, and want to fit in.  But truthfully, do consider Invisalign Teen for your adolescent.  Remember your braces?

Besides the benefits of fitting in with their friends, children at this age have high metabolisms, which can help shorten overall treatment time and reduce the discomfort of orthodontic treatment.

Contact our office for an initial FREE examination, and we will be able to determine the best time for your adolescent’s treatment and outline their treatment plan, expected treatment duration and treatment cost.
